V - Vikings

Widnes Vikings Rugby League Club, founded in 1875, has long been a defining part of the town’s sporting identity. Once known as “The Chemics” and later “The Cup Kings”, the club’s current name reflects the Viking settlements that shaped the region during the 9th Century and their fierce sporting spirit. As one of the original twenty‑two English clubs that formed the Northern Football Union in 1895, Widnes stands as one of the world’s first rugby league teams and currently competes in the Championship.
