Look Up – You are Beautiful

Join us this Heritage Open Days and help create Halton’s Living Gallery

This September, Halton is inviting you to see your world differently. As part of Heritage Open Days 2025, we’re asking residents to pause, look up, and rediscover the beauty hidden in plain sight.

Look Up – You are Beautiful is a new community campaign celebrating the unique details that make our borough shine. From Runcorn to Widnes, Daresbury to Hale Village, we want you to capture the little things that tell Halton’s story – and share them with us.

It could be the intricate patterns of a bridge, the colours of stained-glass windows, historic street signs, murals, or even the way nature finds its place in our streets. These are the gems that give Halton its character – the “Art-itecture” that surrounds us every day.

All the pictures and drawings will help create a “living gallery” of Halton, and they will inspire a special new library window artwork which will be created later this month by Colette Whittington.

Colette Whittington

Visual Artist

Collette is a visual artist with extensive experience leading community and heritage projects locally and across the country. She works with museums, galleries, libraries, hospitals and grassroots organisations to co-create artistic outcomes. Her public artworks are largely illustrative, combining elements of printmaking, drawing and collage, often using archive materials and oral histories to inform the work. She is driven by storytelling, narratives and ‘a sense of place’; where we live and who we are. She has close ties to Halton so is very excited to be working alongside local folk to make art works that reflect the perspectives, memories, testimonies, and folklore of the people who call Runcorn and Widnes their home.
